Preliminary Notes

Site: within city of Bath.

Monastery was Benedictine.

Length 201 Feet, width 123 feet, Height of vaults, 78 feet, Height of Tower 162 feet. (Pevsner, p 101)

Building of present structure begun under the direction of Oliver King, Bishop of Bath and Wells (1495-1503). Said to have been desigend by the brothers Robert and William Vertue, the master Masons to the King. (Wright, p3)
